These cowpokes don’t like soggy boots.
Less is More: Water every 2–3 weeks, depending on the season. In summer, they may need a bit more; in winter, a bit less.
Check the Soil: Always let the soil dry out completely before watering again.
How to Water: Pour water directly into the soil until it drains out the bottom — then empty any extra from the saucer. Never let your cactus sit in standing water.
Your cactus likes to feel at home in a cozy pot.
Soil: A well-draining cactus or succulent mix works best. Avoid regular potting soil, which holds too much moisture. We provide this to start!
Pots: Terra cotta pots are great because they let the soil breathe. All pots should have drainage holes which are built in to our system (bandanas are for style, not water retention!).
Repotting: Most cacti only need to be repotted every 2–3 years, or when they outgrow their boots (aka their pot).
Cacti thrive in warm, dry conditions — just like the desert.
Ideal Range: 65–85°F during the day. They can tolerate cooler nights, but keep them away from frost.
Humidity: They don’t love high humidity. Bathrooms and overly damp rooms aren’t the best fit.
Give your cactus a little chuckwagon fuel now and then.
Fertilizer: During the growing season (spring and summer), feed once a month with a diluted cactus fertilizer.
Skip Winter: In the cooler months, cacti rest — so no need to feed.
🤠 Extra Tips for Happy Cowpokes
Dust ‘Em Off: A soft brush or cloth helps keep your cactus clean and photosynthesizing like a champ.
Mind the Spines: Some cacti have sharper personalities than others — handle with gloves or tongs when needed.
Watch for Trouble: Wrinkled skin may mean it’s thirsty. Yellowing or mushiness usually means too much water.
